Vietnam’s Top 10 Exports
The following export product groups represent the highest dollar value in Vietnamese global shipments during 2017. Also shown is the percentage share each export category represents in terms of overall exports from Vietnam.
At the more granular four-digit Harmonized Tariff System code level, Vietnam’s most valuable exported products are mobile phones followed by electronic integrated circuits, footwear, miscellaneous furniture, television/radio/radar device parts, then printing machinery.
- Electrical machinery, equipment: US$94 billion (38.1% of total exports)
- Footwear: $19.9 billion (8%)
- Machinery including computers: $14.6 billion (5.9%)
- Clothing, accessories (not knit or crochet): $13.8 billion (5.6%)
- Knit or crochet clothing, accessories: $13 billion (5.3%)
- Furniture, bedding, lighting, signs, prefab buildings: $8.9 billion (3.6%)
- Optical, technical, medical apparatus: $5.6 billion (2.3%)
- Fish: $5 billion (2%)
- Coffee, tea, spices: $4.6 billion (1.9%)
- Leather/animal gut articles: $4 billion (1.6%)
Vietnam’s top 10 exports accounted for almost three-quarters (74.3%) of the overall value of its global shipments.
Electrical machinery and equipment was the fastest-growing among the top 10 export categories, up by 64.3% from 2016 to 2017.
In second place for improving Vietnam’s export sales was furniture, bedding, lighting, signs and prefab buildings via a 52.4% gain.
Vietnamese machinery including computers posted the third-fastest gain in value, up by 50.9%.
Year over year, two top categories declined: coffee, tea and spices (down -4.3%) and fish (down -3.8%).
